E. Sensor and Control:
Technology: [Time-of-Flight optical distance-ranging sensor] [Infrared sensor] as scheduled and documented for the selected model.
ToF Function: Sensor determines target distance from the travel time of emitted and reflected light pulses. The control logic shall distinguish the intended handwashing zone from fixed surrounding surfaces.
Performance: ToF sensing shall reduce susceptibility to false activation associated with variations in target reflectivity, ambient-light conditions, reflective surfaces, and dark basin materials when compared with conventional intensity-dependent infrared sensing; verify performance with the selected faucet and basin combination.
Detection Zone: Factory set and field adjustable where provided by the selected model. Set to recognize hands within the intended wash zone without detecting the basin, drain, backsplash, or pass-by traffic.
Response Time: As documented in the approved model-specific product data.
Maximum Run Time: Factory setting of [30 seconds] [model-specific value], with automatic shutoff.
Service Mode: Provide model-specific means to deactivate or control the faucet for cleaning and maintenance, where available.
F. Valve Assembly:
Electronically operated solenoid valve compatible with the controller and supply pressure.
Provide accessible inlet strainer or filter to protect the valve from debris.
Provide check valves where required by the mixing arrangement and model-specific instructions.
G. Power:
[Battery powered] [Plug-in transformer] [Hardwired low-voltage transformer] [AC/DC combination with battery backup], as scheduled.
Input and output voltage, battery type and quantity, circuit loading, transformer capacity, and wiring shall match the approved product data.
Locate power supply and connections in dry, accessible positions protected from leakage, cleaning operations, and physical damage.
H. Water Temperature Control:
[Single tempered-water supply] [Under-deck mechanical mixing valve] [Thermostatic mixing valve complying with the applicable project requirements], as scheduled.
Set maximum outlet temperature as required by the adopted code, accessibility criteria, facility standards, and Contract Documents.
I. Operating Pressure: Within the manufacturer-published range for the selected model. Verify both static and dynamic conditions.
J. Accessibility: Select and install faucets so that reach, operable parts, spout location, clear floor space, knee/toe clearance, and lavatory configuration comply with the adopted accessibility requirements. Refer to Fontana ADA Touchless Faucet Resources.
K. Certifications: Provide certifications expressly required by the Contract Documents and available for the exact scheduled model. Do not infer certification from other products in the same collection.
ToF Coordination Note
The selected sensor technology must be confirmed on the individual product cut sheet. Fontana offers multiple sensing pathways; do not substitute “ToF” for a product documented as conventional infrared. For additional background, see Fontana ToF Technology: Precision and Innovation.

Part 3 - Execution
3.1 Examination
A. Verify that lavatories, countertops, walls, openings, backing, supplies, drainage, electrical rough-ins, and service clearances are correctly located and ready for faucet installation.
B. Verify faucet-spout reach and outlet position relative to the basin to direct the water stream into the usable bowl area without splashing.
C. Do not begin installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 Preparation
A. Thoroughly flush hot, cold, and tempered-water supply piping before connecting faucet valves, control modules, mixing devices, or flow-control outlets.
B. Protect sensor windows, finished surfaces, connectors, and electronic components from construction debris, moisture, impact, sealant, and cleaning chemicals.
3.3 Installation
A. Install faucets, control boxes, solenoid valves, mixing devices, power supplies, strainers, and accessories in accordance with approved submittals and manufacturer instructions.
B. Secure deck-mounted and wall-mounted spouts rigidly, align with the basin, and provide watertight connections. Use sealants compatible with fixture finishes and countertop or wall materials.
C. Install control boxes, transformers, batteries, filters, stops, and mixing valves in accessible service locations; do not conceal serviceable components without access.
D. Route low-voltage cables separately from sources of damage and electrical interference; support and protect wiring in accordance with electrical requirements and manufacturer instructions.
E. Insulate or protect supply and drain piping where required for accessibility and user contact.
F. Install wall-mounted rough-ins at the correct depth and orientation; maintain access to concealed valves and electronic components.
3.4 Field Quality Control and Commissioning
A. After connection, open supplies slowly and inspect each water connection under static and operating conditions. Correct leaks.
B. Energize equipment and verify correct polarity, voltage under load, battery installation, cable connections, and control response.
C. Calibrate the detection zone in accordance with the selected model's instructions. Test with the installed basin dry and wet and with normal restroom lighting operating.
D. Confirm that the faucet detects hands throughout the intended wash zone without activation from the basin, drain, backsplash, adjacent fixtures, or normal pass-by movement.
E. Verify automatic shutoff and maximum run time.
F. Measure discharge using a timed-volume test and confirm compliance with the scheduled flow rate.
G. Measure and record static and dynamic supply pressure where required. Correct restrictions, clogged filters, partially closed stops, or pressure conditions outside the manufacturer-published range.
