Automatic Faucets How Do They Work

Due to COVID outbreak sanitation in public restrooms have never been more important. One

of the ways that you can ensure better sanitation is through touchless (automatic)

faucets. The choice of the right faucet definitely matters regardless

of whether you are using it for commercial, residential,

washroom or a kitchen.

If you've been to hospitals, airports, restaurants etc. you may have seen automatic faucets

and how they operate.
The technologies used in the automatic faucet are quite old but,

it's only recent that these technologies were extended to faucets.

Whether you have seen it or not, it might be of interest to understand the working of an

automatic faucet.
In this article, you will understand all you need to know

about how automatic faucets work!

How do automatic faucets work?

The functioning of an automatic faucet includes four main parts which are as follows.

They work collectively, each playing its special role, in order to make

the touchless faucet work.

The sensor:
In a sensor faucet, the sensor is located at the base or lip of the spout and is

designed in a way that it detects the presence of the hand when placed under it

and sends the signal to turn on the faucet.

Similarly, when you remove your hand, it detects the absence of the hand and tells the

faucet to turn off. Most of these sensors work with the help of infrared light and

infrared detectors. When your hand comes near the spout, the infrared

light bounces off the skin and moves to the detector

which in turn turns of the valve of the faucet.

Some faucets also make use of an ultrasonic field sensor which will turn on the faucet

once the field is disrupted by the presence of the hand.

Solenoid valve: The solenoid valve of the sensor faucet is an electromagnet which

can pull or push based on the electric polarity. These valves make use of a disk

which is rubber-like to control the flow of water.

While the valve is normally closed, the presence of the hand leads to the solenoid

pulling the valve to the water is opened. And when the hands are

removed, it pushes the valve to close again.

Power source: All sensor faucets use a power source to operate. Some make

use of dry-battery while others make use of low-voltage current from

an AC transformer. This electricity is responsible for powering

the sensor, controlling electronics and the water valve.

The spout:
The spouts of a touch less faucet are where the design purpose lies.

The final look and finish of the faucet is done by the spout and is also the

reason why people may choose one faucet over the other.

They are responsible for holding all the parts of the faucet together and also

where the water comes out from!

Types of Faucets

There are several types of automatic faucets, like the ones discussed above;
AC transformer-operated and dry-battery operated

Where can automatic faucets be installed?

You will find automatic faucets almost in all commercial places like airports,

restaurants etc. as well as in residential uses such as in washrooms

and kitchens of some homes.

Benefits of automatic faucets

Why are people increasingly shifting to the use of automatic faucets? Here are a few reasons why!

An automatic sensor faucet offers the benefit of decreasing water consumption because it only

flows in the time that the water is needed and is being used.

One of the much-noted benefits of a touchless faucet is that it tends to be water-saving

and greatly helpful for those who forget to turn off the tap.

A great variety of electronic faucets are now available which provide your bathroom

and kitchen a modern and stylish look. This is also increasingly the reason why

people have shifted to making use of these electronic faucets. Anti-ghost triggering sensor faucet works consistently across lighting conditions & Corrosion resistant brass body sensor faucet for demanding commercial environments.

The very fact that the touch-less, automatic faucets are battery-operated makes

the energy consumption ultra-low thus reducing the energy use.

One of the major benefits is that you can feel at ease knowing that your hands

are free of germs. With a touch less bathroom faucet the possibility of

germ or bacteria being present on the faucet is entirely removed
